Wild Thyme

Wild thyme (Thymus serpyllum), also known as creeping thyme, is a low-growing, woody perennial herb native to Europe and parts of Africa and Asia. Particularly resilient, it prefers well-drained soils and sunny locations, forming dense mats of small, oval leaves with tiny, tubular flowers that range in color from pink to purple, blooming in the summer.

The scent profile of wild thyme is rich and complex. It exudes a strong, aromatic fragrance that is predominantly earthy and herbal, with a slightly minty undertone. Notes of thyme’s characteristic pungent and slightly sweet aroma are prominent. This herby scent is accompanied by subtle hints of floral and clove-like nuances, making it a favorite among gardeners and cooks. The aroma becomes more pronounced when the leaves are crushed or when the plant is in bloom. Wild thyme is often used in culinary applications, adding depth and flavor to dishes, and its oil is sometimes used in perfumery for its distinctive scent.
