Spikenard

Spikenard, also known as Nardostachys jatamansi, is a flowering plant of the Valerian family native to the high altitudes of the Himalayas. Historically revered for its aromatic rhizome, spikenard has been used in ancient perfumery, incense, and traditional medicine. The scent of spikenard essential oil is complex and has a strong, musky, earthy aroma with hints of moist soil and wood, often perceived as having sweet, woody undertones reminiscent of moss. This deep and intense fragrance is sometimes compared to patchouli with hints of wet foliage. Spikenard's rich scent profile makes it valuable in aroma therapy and perfumery as a base note that provides depth and longevity to fragrant compositions.
