Petrichor

Petrichor is the distinct, earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil or ground. This aromatic phenomenon is triggered by the release of geosmin, an organic compound produced by certain soil-dwelling bacteria called actinomycetes, along with oils emitted by plants during dry periods. When rainwater hits the ground, it agitates these oils and geosmin, sending them airborne and creating the pleasant, fresh smell commonly associated with rain.

The scent profile of petrichor is characterized by its clean, fresh earthiness, often possessing a slightly sweet, musky aroma.
