Orris Concrete

Orris concrete is a valuable substance extracted from the roots of the iris plant, specifically Iris pallida, Iris germanica, and Iris florentina. The roots are harvested, meticulously cleaned, cut, and then left to dry for several years. This extensive drying process allows the roots to develop their characteristic fragrance, after which they are ground and subjected to steam distillation or solvent extraction to produce orris butter or concrete, a highly aromatic solid.

The scent profile of orris concrete is deeply complex and highly prized in the perfume industry. It is often described as having a richly floral and delicately woody aroma, with a violet-like, slightly powdery undertone. Orris concrete also carries hints of fresh earth and a touch of cucumber, which gives it an overall soft, yet sophisticated and luxurious scent. Its powdery and starchy aspects make it a popular choice in the base notes of high-end perfumes, contributing to a refined, velvety finish that enhances the depth and lasting power of fragrances. Its rarity and intricate extraction process make orris concrete an expensive and exclusive ingredient, often used sparingly but with significant impact.
