Orange Tree

The orange tree, scientifically known as Citrus sinensis, is a fruit-bearing tree known for its fragrant and colorful citrus fruit—the orange. This evergreen tree is typically moderate in height, ranging from 8 to 15 meters. It has glossy, dark green leaves and thorny branches. Orange trees are cultivated largely in tropical and subtropical climates, requiring plenty of sunlight and well-drained soil.

The scent profile of an orange tree is distinctly fresh and citrusy. The aroma comes primarily from the tree’s blossoms, known as orange blossom or neroli, which emit a sweet, floral and slightly herbaceous fragrance. These blossoms are highly valued in the perfume industry and are also used to make orange blossom water, a popular culinary and cosmetic ingredient.

The fruit itself contributes to the tree’s aromatic blend, with its rind releasing a zesty, bright scent when bruised or cut. This comes from the essential oils located in the pores of the rind, particularly limonene, which is known for its uplifting and invigorating olfactory qualities.
