False Sandalwood

False sandalwood, also known as various botanicals not directly related to true sandalwood (Santalum species), includes plants like *Myoporum sandwicense* and species from the genus *Eremophila*. These alternatives have been utilized due to the high cost and limited supply of authentic sandalwood.

The scent profile of false sandalwood generally tries to mimic the warm, rich, and woody aroma characteristic of true sandalwood. It often has a slightly balsamic quality with softer, less pronounced creamy and smooth notes. False sandalwood can also carry additional herbal and slightly piquant nuances that differentiate it from the deeper, sweeter, and more exotic scent of true sandalwood oil.

These alternatives are frequently used in perfumery and aromatherapy as cost-effective substitutes, offering a similar, though not identical, sensory experience. While they provide a woody base note, the complexity and persistence of the fragrance might not fully match that of true sandalwood.
