Benzoin Orpur

Benzoin orpur is a natural resin derived from the bark of several species of trees in the genus Styrax. It is primarily sourced from trees grown in parts of Asia, including Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. The resin is tapped from the tree, similarly to how latex is collected, and then allowed to harden into lumps which can be used in perfumery and incense.

Benzoin orpur is cherished in the fragrance industry for its rich, warm, and comforting aroma. It has a complex scent profile featuring sweet, vanilla-like undertones with spicy, cinnamon-like notes over a resinous, slightly woody base. Sometimes described as having a caramel-like sweetness, benzoin also possesses balsamic qualities which contribute to its soothing and warming characteristics. This resin is commonly used in perfumery as a base note because it blends well with various other ingredients, helping to ground and enrich perfume compositions. It also has fixative properties, which means it helps extend the longevity of other, more volatile, scents in a perfume blend.

In perfumes, benzoin orpur adds depth and warmth, making it a popular choice for oriental and amber fragrance families. Its rich, enveloping scent is also thought to promote relaxation and mental calm, adding to its appeal in aromatherapy applications.
